Ares, b. June 2016
After Brutus died at the end of 2016, we started looking around for a new Dane to keep Maia (and us) company. It was a bit tricky finding just the right dog, as Maia is a dominant female and a bit reactive. We came on Ares through Big Bones Canine Rescue. We don't know much about his history, except that he was rescued from a bad breeder situation in Oklahoma. He's very timid, afraid of people, afraid of doors. Inside the house he's approachable; outside, not so much. But after months of work, he's doing much better, and loves playing with us (even though it's a bit of keep-away). But it's a different story with other dogs. He plays all the time with Maia, and when we pass our neighbor's place, he loves to run up and down the fenceline (hundreds of feet) with their dogs.
He's a young dog, still growing. And while he's quite thin and lanky, he's very tall. The tallest Dane we've ever had, at least six inches over Maia. He must be near his final height by now, but he'll probably be filling out for another year or more.
